Voyager Estate Chenin Blanc 2018
The fruit for Voyager’s Chenin Blanc is sourced from three Estate vineyard blocks. Voyager Estate has some of the oldest Chenin Blanc vines in Margaret River with one of the blocks being part of the original 1978 plantings. The main vineyard contributing to the wine is Weightmans Block 1 which displays excellent early flavour development ensuring good natural acidity. The vineyard soils are typically gravelly loams with a stony clay subsoil with excellent drainage and a good moisture-holding capacity, producing vines with exceptional balance. Predominantly fermented in stainless steel, 5% of the blend was fermented in three-year-old French oak to aid complexity and then aged a further two months with weekly bâtonnage prior to blending. The new release is high on vibrant tropical fruits with underlying citrus and nuances of red apples and the wine displays nice weight and texture with an attractive sweetness balanced with fresh natural acidity.
