Spinifex Miette Shiraz 2017
Miette is a direct translation from the French word “Crumb”. It’s a direct reference to the yummy morsels left on the side of your plate after a hearty meal. Far from being leftover, Pete Schell’s Miette Shiraz represents sensational value while delivering a great introduction to the Spinifex approach to winemaking. The core of the Miette Shiraz is sourced from four key vineyards in Ebenezer, Bethany, Tanunda and the Moppa; sites that deliver bold, honest and deep Shiraz flavours and structure. Weaving in freshness and length, Schell leavens the valley floor wines with leaner fruit from the higher country of the Barossa Ranges and Eden Valley. Hand harvested fruit is fermented with indigenous yeasts with a portion retained as whole bunches. Élevage is undertaken in a range of French oak vessels of 225 to 3,000 litres capacity and a portion retained in stainless steel. Bottled 18 months after vintage. It’s a great-value pourer: a righteous brew that goes long on flavour and supple texture.
